Joan Dancy and PALS (People with ALS) Foundation
At the age of 50, Joan Dancy, a mother of two from Middletown was diagnosed with ALS and she was also told that there was no cure for the disease. Despite the dense population and numerous medical centers in the area, there were very few resources available locally to help people afflicted with ALS.
Before Joan passed away, she asked her fiancé, Terry Magovern, to establish a grassroots organization to help ALS patients and their families in Monmouth and Ocean counties. Her wish became a reality in 2006.
The Joan Dancy and PALS Foundation provides support group meetings, direct grants to address critical individual needs, wheelchairs, ramps, electronic communication and speech generating devices, to provide a better quality of life for our ALS patients.
John Edward has been a dear friend of our organization for some time and has generously put together this event with all proceeds benefitting our Foundation. Through the generosity of friends like John, we make a positive difference to anywhere from 50 to 70 patients at any given time. …and that’s what we do…every day… every year.
